So I fell off the bandwagon again last night. I didn’t post and I have a feeling I know why I’ve been extra grumpy.
I suffer with SAD. Everyone gets sad, but this is slightly different: SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder. It happens in the colder, darker months and can cause an array of symptoms such as exhaustion, deep sadness, depression and anxiety. It can also make you generally a horrible human to be around. There is a website that is dedicated to providing information and support for SAD sufferers, and looking at the page of symptoms, I seem to have pretty much all of them. I was not a nice person yesterday.
There are things you can do to help ease your symptoms, and the one that made most sense to me was to get light treatment in the form of a lamp, nicknamed a SAD light. Use of this light should be limited from 30 minutes to an hour and should not be used before bed or it can cause sleep issues. I’ve found the best time for me to use it while I’m doing my make up in the morning, as I have time to use it and it gives great lighting!
There is no shame in suffering with SAD, and if you think you there’s a chance you have it, go and talk to your GP – they’re there to help.
I’m sorry for the late post, and hopefully this snippet of information will go towards making it up to you.
