Since I started my new job a few months ago, my trip to work has more on-the-bus time than previously, which means I have more time to read and that has a knock-on effect of making me read before bed too. I’m 100% okay with this. I bloody love books.
It’s been so long since I actually properly read that I have a problem. I opened my Kindle and went to book seven of a series I’d read a year or so ago and settled into the rock hard bus seat, accidentally jostling the leg of my bus-neighbour, ready to get stuck into this new book. Two pages in, I sat with a befuddled expression – I didn’t know who Yelena or Kiki were. Tapping the home button, I searched for the author, needing to check I had actually read the previous six books. Yep, there they were, 100% complete. What?
I spent the rest of my bus journey doing some googling to find out if I’d gone crazy or my Kindle was playing a very late and unamusing April fool’s prank on me. I finally deduced that I wasn’t losing my marbles and had read the books, but simply couldn’t remember what happened. So I navigated to book 1 and started again because there’s no point in reading about this Yelena and Kiki, who were clearly on an adventure of some sorts, if I wasn’t behind their story up to this point.
A week or so later I was reacquainted with Yelena and Kiki, only to then remember that books four, five, and six were about another character and it would be cruel to leave her out, right? So I demolished those too. Another week or so later, I open up book 7 and there are the duo, waiting for me to continue with them on their journey and my word, what a journey it turned out to be.
The thing is, it’s not the only series that that happened with either. Nope. It’s happened with two others since then and I’ll tell you this; they were all so much better the second time around and that’s saying something, because I loved them the first time. In fact, I was reading one series (that I hadn’t read before) and immediately went to Amazon after finishing it to see if the Author had written anything else and lo and behold, they had… and I’d read two of the other series before. Yep.
I’m not going to leave you hanging, don’t worry. Here are the books I’m on about:
The Adventures of Yelena and KikiThe Chronicles of Ixia – Maria V. Snyder
- Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas
- Whispers from Mirrowen, Legends of Muirwood, Landmoor – Jeff Wheeler
Please pick up the books. You won’t regret it. For now, I’m going to have a shower and settle down with book 2 of Legends of Muirwood (for the second time).
P.S. The featured image is from the Throne of Glass Wikia. Don’t go there unless you’re up to date – seriously, even the page for that image is a spoiler!
